• Topography: Rocky and flat islands
• Geology: Granite and coral atols
• Hydrogeology: shallow groundwater on some islands
• Vulnerability: Intrusion of saline water during the tsunami flood may have occurred but the volume depends on the duration and the depth of the flooding
• Water Supply: all islands rely on surface water; groundwater is only used at La Digue Island to augment the supply in the dry season; additional supply from desalinisation plants
• Damage areas: the tsunami caused damage to water supply main pipes and drainage pipes
