Dear reader,

you are probably already familiar with IGRAC or even involved in IGRAC activities. On the other hand, this may be your first encounter of our young centre. Anyway, in this first IGRAC Electronic Newsletter we would like to mention what IGRAC stands for:

IGRAC - an initiative of UNESCO and WMO - is founded as a non-commercial centre to promote and facilitate the exchange of groundwater knowledge for the benefit of all those who have a stake in groundwater.

Next, we would like to inform you about the main on-going IGRAC activities.

Global Groundwater Information System

Global Groundwater Information System

During the first week of November 2003, IGRAC has reached an important milestone. The first version of the Global Overview-Basic Version - the first module of IGRAC Global Groundwater Information System (GGIS) - has been released. Guidelines and Protocols

Available: Global Inventory Report on existing guidelines and protocols for groundwater assessment and monitoring. Over 400 relevant document titles have been found world-wide. They have been listed under eight categories, ranging from 'Drilling and well construction' to 'Design of monitoring networks' (read further...).
