On 31 May and 1 June, IGRAC gave a training workshop for SADC-GMI staff on how to work with the SADC Groundwater Information Portal (GIP). This SADC-GIP has recently been launched and is developed by IGRAC. SADC-GIP a map-based information system providing access to the harmonised SADC Hydrogeological Map and Atlas as well as other relevant groundwater-related maps like the WHYMAP Global Groundwater Vulnerability Map to Floods and Droughts and IGRAC's Map of Transboundary Aquifers of the World.

At the launch of SADC-GMI, many member states indicated that access to hydrogeological maps is one of the priorities. Therefore SADC-GMI took the initiative to revive access to the results from the SADC Hydrogeological Mapping Project by commissioning IGRAC to develop the SADC Groundwater Information Portal. This SADC-GIP is now available online and gives access to the harmonised hydrogeological map for the SADC region, borehole data and associated information. Access the portal here.
