Governments and international committees must recognise the crucial contribution of groundwater to climate resilience and sustainable development, urges a group of international scientists and practitioners in the Global Groundwater Statement

Over 900 scientists from over 85 countries around the world have already signed the statement, including IGRAC groundwater specialists.

IGRAC, as the only global, UN-affiliated groundwater centre, is supporting the statement and see it as an opportunity to closely work together towards 2022: The Year of Groundwater. In 2022, the World Water Day and the World Water Development Report will be dedicated to Groundwater: Making Invisible Visible. Together with UNESCO, IAH and some other partners, IGRAC has already started preparation of the Groundwater Summit 2022, that will also be a central celebration of the World Water Day.

In support of the Groundwater Statement (and in close cooperation with its initiators) IGRAC produced a video with statements of groundwater scientists from all over the World.
