Acacia Water uses IGRAC’s Groundwater Serious Game at Kenya-RAPID project

IGRAC’s Groundwater Serious Game at Kenya-RAPID project

IGRAC's Serious Groundwater Game will be used within the framework of the Kenya-RAPID project. This game called 'The Tragedy of the Groundwater Commons Game' aims to improve participants' insight in the social dilemma of the tragedy of the commons through different groundwater management scenarios. If you are interested in including the groundwater game in a project, workshop or training programme, please contact IGRAC: info@un-igrac.org.

Kenya RAPID

KENYA RAPID is a 5-years programme (2015-2020) focusing on five Northern counties with high poverty rates, chronic food and water insecurity, and low access to basic services - Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Wajir and Turkana. It builds on the successes and lessons learned from USAID’s (US Agency for International Development) Kenya Arid Lands Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program (KALDRR-WASH) and the Swiss Development Corporation’s (SDC) Water for Livestock (W4L) program – both implemented in Northern Kenya from 2012-2014.

The overall goal of KENYA RAPID is to contribute to sustainable and resilient livelihoods for communities in the ASALs. Acacia Water is a partner in the program and will provide two IWRM training at Isiolo and Turkana in the coming weeks, as part of its contribution to the Kenya-Rapid project.

Raising awareness with IGRAC Serious Groundwater Game

As a tool to help raising awareness about Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Acacia Water will hold during the training two game-sessions using IGRAC’s Serious Groundwater Game. The purpose of using the GW-game is to raise awareness of the impact of groundwater withdrawals on other water uses and the environment. With this game the conversation about the importance of mutual alignment with different (ground) water users will be started. As a result, it is also expected that the GW-game will contributes to the purpose of the training and contribute to strategic policy and decisions making.
