During this online event, organized by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MTERD) of Spain and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), experts and leaders from the Latin American and Spanish water sectors met to discuss the challenges arising with local and transboundary aquifers. IGRAC Director Neno Kukuric was invited as transboundary aquifers expert to give a keynote speech with a global perspective about the state of groundwater resources.

7th Water Dialogues

During this 7th edition of the Latin America-Spain Water Dialogues, the challenges arising in local and transboundary aquifers were discussed, in view of their relevance as a priority source of fresh water, promoting their rational use, protection, and if necessary their restoration, as well as the need to encourage (in the case of international aquifers), agreements that allow progress with joint policies and strategies between countries.

In his presentation, Neno Kukuric stressed that greater efforts should be made to assess the world's groundwater resources and implement actions that allow “making the invisible visible”. This presentation also inspired two round tables in which the challenges and characteristics of the management and governance of both local and transboundary aquifers were analyzed into more detail.
