Shared water resources as a platform for cooperation

Shared water resources as a platform for cooperation

An inspiring workshop on "Transboundary Waters, Opportunities for Cooperation" was held in Yazd, I.R. Iran on 22 February 2012. The workshop was organised by the Iranian Ministry of Energy (Water & Electricity), its Transboundary Water Researches Center (TWRC) and Water Research Institute (WRI), Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ICQHS, CHRS, IGRAC and WRM (Iran Water Resources Management Company).

IGRAC gladly responded to the invitation of the hosts to contribute to this event. The Iranian Transboundary Water Researches Center (TWRC) is taking a number of activities to stimulate and improve assessment and management of internationally shared aquifers that this country shares with its neighbours. This successful workshop is one of those activities. The workshop was organised as a side-event of a conference on Traditional Knowledge on Water Resources Management prepared jointly by UNESCO and Iranian Ministry of Energy. In this way, the information on transboundary water management could effectively be spread among much larger number of water specialists.
